2024 Tesla Model 3 Refresh: The Perfect Starter EV!

I'm genuinely impressed with the refreshed Model 3. It feels like a mini Model S — quieter, more refined, and better built in every way that matters for daily driving.

First Impressions

Within minutes of walking up to this thing, I could tell Tesla wasn't messing around. The refreshed Model 3 — some call it the Highland — looks sharper, feels more premium, and genuinely surprised me with how much has changed beneath the familiar silhouette. After about a week with it, the small improvements have added up to something that feels like a generational leap rather than a mid-cycle facelift.

Design & Exterior

The new angular headlights are the dead giveaway. They're sleeker, more aggressive, and they give the front end a purposeful look that the old car lacked. The nose slopes down a touch more, contributing to a seriously low drag coefficient that you can actually feel in real-world efficiency.

Around the back, the one-piece taillights are a nice touch — no gaps, just one continuous light bar when you see it at night. The Tesla text badge replacing the logo on the rear took some warming up, but I'm on board now. The Ultra Red paint absolutely pops in person and photographs beautifully.

The Stalkless Steering Wheel

Here's where opinions will split. Tesla has removed all stalks. Turn signals are now buttons on the left side of the wheel, and gear selection is a swipe on the screen or a physical PRNDL strip up top as a backup. Honestly, it takes a day or two to recalibrate your muscle memory, but I adapted faster than expected. The horn is back to a proper center pad, which is welcome. Still, if you loved the tactile click of a traditional stalk, this will bother you.

Driving Experience

The softer suspension is the headline here. The old Model 3's coil setup was firm — sometimes punishingly so over rough roads. This refresh smooths things out considerably, and I think most owners will appreciate the trade-off. Yes, it's less sporty, but for the vast majority of driving you actually do, comfort wins.

The tighter turning radius was a pleasant surprise that Tesla barely mentioned.
