It surprised me how much interior space fits in such a tiny footprint. Perfect for anyone wanting a compact, easy-to-park electric car.

The BYD Atto 1 surprised me with its interior space despite its tiny footprint. It's a well-packaged city EV that should appeal to anyone wanting a compact, easy-to-park electric car for daily errands.

Driving Experience

Haven't driven it yet. The suspension setup is MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear, which is standard for this segment, but I'll need seat time to judge how it actually rides.

Pros

  • Interior space is surprisingly roomy for its size
  • Disc brakes on all four wheels
  • BYD Blade Battery offers strong safety credentials
  • Flat rear floor improves passenger comfort
  • Compact turning radius makes city driving easy
  • ADAS suite available on the Premium trim
  • Wireless charging included on top trim
  • ISOFIX child seat anchors in the rear

Cons

  • No 360-degree camera on either trim
  • Rear seats only fold flat as one piece, no 60/40 split
  • No rear air vents
  • No auto-dimming rearview mirror on any trim
  • No panoramic sunroof on any variant
  • Base trim lacks ADAS features entirely
  • Rear wiper not included
  • Console area feels a bit cramped

Value for Money

You get a solid package with the Premium trim including electric seat adjustment, wireless charging, a full ADAS suite, and a larger battery. The base Dynamic trim strips quite a bit away, so the top spec feels like the one to get if you want the complete experience.

Verdict

The BYD Atto 1 is a charming little city EV that punches above its weight in interior space and safety features. It's ideal for urban commuters and families needing a compact second car, though you'll want the Premium trim for the full experience.

The BYD Atto 1 surprised me with its roomy rear seats and sporty design, but the lack of a 360-degree camera and some cost-cutting in materials hold it back. It's a decent city EV that looks better than most rivals in this segment.

Driving Experience

I only got a brief drive around a tight space, but the steering weight felt good and the turning circle impressed me. Power feels adequate for city use, though a proper road test is still needed.

Pros

  • Rear legroom is shockingly generous for such a small car
  • Sportiest design in its class
  • Two battery size options to choose from
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Adaptive cruise control on Premium trim
  • Wireless phone charger included
  • Excellent headroom front and rear
  • Tight turning circle perfect for city driving

Cons

  • No 360-degree camera on any trim
  • Rear seat is one-piece bench with no armrest
  • Hard plastics dominate the interior
  • DC charging tops out at 40 kW
  • Base trim strips out most safety tech
  • Auto window only on driver side down function
  • Manual sun visor with no auto-dimming mirror
  • Screen does not rotate or flip

Value for Money

You get two battery choices which is unusual at this level, and the Premium trim packs adaptive cruise and wireless connectivity. However, the base Dynamic trim strips away so much safety tech that it feels bare compared to competitors like the GWM EX2.

Verdict

If you want the sportiest-looking city EV and need that generous back seat, the Atto 1 Premium is worth a look. Skip the base trim unless you truly need nothing beyond basic transportation.
