The BYD Seal 6 surprised me with its sporty styling and punchy motor that makes Japanese hybrid sedans sweat.

The BYD Seal 6 is a surprisingly large and well-equipped electric sedan at this price point, but the lack of lane-keeping assist on both trims is a frustrating omission. Interior quality is solid for the money, though the entry trim loses enough features that the top spec is the obvious choice.

Driving Experience

Haven't driven it yet — this was a walkaround at launch with four models to cover in limited time.

Pros

  • Cabin feels bigger than it looks in photos
  • Rear seat recline angle is genuinely comfortable
  • 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen is responsive and well-executed
  • 360-degree cameras and 6 parking sensors standard on both trims
  • Ambient lighting throughout on the top trim
  • Dual-zone auto AC with PM2.5 filtration standard
  • Independent rear suspension on both trims
  • Sunroof with actual shade curtain on top trim

Cons

  • No lane-keeping assist on either trim — surprising gap for a Chinese EV
  • Entry trim loses wireless charging, ambient lighting, and sunroof
  • Rear footwell is tight, can't slide feet under the front seat
  • Glossy black interior trim will likely catch glare and show scratches
  • Only rear-wheel drive, no AWD option
  • Entry trim is limited to just two exterior colors

Value for Money

For the top trim price, you get a lot of car — big dimensions, solid tech, and decent interior quality that punches above its segment. The gap between the two trims is real enough that if you're choosing the entry spec purely to save money, I'd question whether the compromises are worth it.

Verdict

The Seal 6 is a compelling option if you want a roomy electric sedan and can live without lane-keeping assist. Skip the base trim and go straight for the top spec — the feature differences are too meaningful to ignore.

The BYD Seal 6 surprised me with its sporty, aggressive styling and a seriously punchy top-spec motor that makes Japanese hybrid sedans sweat. The feature list is genuinely impressive for the price bracket it's targeting.

Driving Experience

Haven't driven it yet, but rear-wheel drive with 217hp and 330Nm in a sedan under a million baht is a genuinely exciting combination. I'm very curious to see how it handles.

Pros

  • Rear-wheel drive setup is rare at this price
  • Top spec packs 217hp — more than a Civic
  • 360-degree cameras standard on both trims
  • Adaptive cruise to full stop on both variants
  • Panoramic sunroof on top trim
  • Genuinely deep, large boot
  • Ambient lighting on Premium trim
  • Rear passenger space beats Civic and Altis

Cons

  • Boot floor is not flat when rear seats fold
  • Materials are mid-grade plastic, not premium
  • Wireless charging only on top trim
  • No heated seats mentioned on either trim
  • Sporty coupe roofline limits headroom slightly
  • Base trim loses panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting
  • White color makes it look less aggressive than grey

Value for Money

If the pricing lands under a million baht as expected, you're getting rear-wheel drive, a full safety suite, and more power than anything Japanese in this bracket. That's a tough value proposition to argue against.

Verdict

If you want a sporty EV sedan that undercuts Japanese hybrids on price while overpowering them on paper, the Seal 6 is worth serious consideration. Skip it if you need an SUV or prioritize interior material quality over performance.
