The Dolphin genuinely surprised me with how premium it feels for the money. Why would you spend more?

BYD Dolphin 2026 ไทย เปิดทุกมุมที่คนไม่กล้าพูด! ขับจริง ประหยัดจริง หรือแค่กระแส EV?

I came in skeptical but left genuinely impressed — this thing punches above its weight in almost every category that matters for daily Thai driving. It's not the most exciting EV on the market, but it might be the most sensible.

Driving Experience

The throttle response is smooth and linear — none of that jarring lurch you get from some EVs — and the suspension soaks up Bangkok's broken roads better than most small cars I've been in. It's tuned for comfort over sport, which is exactly the right call for this class.

Pros

  • Suspension handles Thai road conditions exceptionally well
  • Throttle feel is natural, easy transition from petrol cars
  • Rotating central touchscreen is genuinely useful
  • Real-world range closely matches official claims
  • Low running costs, no engine oil, minimal maintenance
  • ADAS features work smoothly without startling the driver
  • Rear seat actually fits two adults properly
  • Steering weight is well-judged at all speeds

Cons

  • Not for performance seekers, acceleration is adequate not exciting
  • Interior materials won't wow anyone used to pricier cars
  • Not designed for long highway stints as a primary use case
  • Steering confidence below European standards at high speed

Value for Money

For a working person wanting to get into an EV without breaking the bank, the base trim is genuinely accessible and you get a lot of car for the money. The larger battery trim costs more but the extra range makes it justifiable if you do occasional longer trips.

Verdict

If you drive mostly in the city and want an EV that's easy to live with, cheap to run, and won't give you headaches, the Dolphin 2026 is the obvious choice. Skip it only if you need performance or a sporty image.

2026 BYD Dolphin Review – The Small EV Big Brands Fear

RZN Auto · 3 months ago · EN

The Dolphin genuinely surprised me with how premium it feels for the money. It's the kind of EV that makes you question why you'd spend more.

Driving Experience

The motor feels smooth and punchy in city traffic, with that instant EV torque making it feel more agile than its price suggests. Haven't had enough seat time to judge it on longer runs.

Pros

  • Interior quality punches well above its price
  • Rotating touchscreen is genuinely useful and responsive
  • Flat EV floor gives the back seat real legroom
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included
  • Blade battery tech is proven and safe
  • Design has real character without being try-hard
  • Wireless charging and ambient lighting feel premium

Cons

  • Variant-dependent features make it hard to know what you actually get
  • Range hasn't been independently verified in real-world conditions
  • Fast charging speed wasn't detailed
  • Safety tech availability varies by market
  • Trunk is decent but not class-leading

Value for Money

If you want a modern EV that doesn't feel like a compromise, the Dolphin is hard to argue against at this price point. Bigger brands charge significantly more for a similar everyday experience.

Verdict

The Dolphin is for city drivers who want something smart, stylish, and affordable without settling. If you're set on a legacy brand badge, that's the only real reason to look elsewhere.

This is a walkaround of the refreshed BYD Dolphin at a BYD showcase event in China, not a full road test. The facelift fixes a lot of the original's real-world annoyances and looks noticeably sharper, so if it makes it to Thailand, it should be a meaningful upgrade over what's currently on sale.

Driving Experience

Haven't driven it yet — this was a static display at a BYD event in China.

Pros

  • Front end redesign is a genuine improvement
  • New seats feel more supportive than the bucket style before
  • Cup holders are finally properly sized and separated
  • Knee clearance around the center console is sorted
  • Larger instrument cluster looks much better
  • Illuminated BYD logo at the rear is a nice touch
  • Rear passengers get a proper air vent now
  • Flat-fold rear seats still work cleanly for cargo

Cons

  • No front trunk despite the EV platform
  • God Eye camera system unlikely to come to Thailand anytime soon
  • Base trim misses powered tailgate
  • Single-zone AC only, no left-right split
  • Thai market will probably get delayed by the usual right-hand-drive conversion lag
  • Base trim gets no wireless charging

Value for Money

The China price sits in the same range as the outgoing model, but Thai pricing will depend on what BYD decides to bundle in. If they bring it in at a competitive price and keep the upgrades intact, it looks like solid value for the segment.

Verdict

The Dolphin facelift fixes the most annoying real-world gripes from the original and looks genuinely fresher — if BYD Thailand moves quickly, this should reclaim its spot as a strong small EV pick. Just don't hold your breath for the full God Eye driver assistance suite at launch.
